Overview

The University of Toronto campus wireless network (UTORcwn) allows laptop computers to connect to the campus network using wireless/radio frequency technology. The campus wireless network does not support cellular technologies, but does support some wired connections via docking ports. We support these Wi-Fi standards:

All of these standards may not work in all locations. Check the coverage maps for details.

UTORcwn is available to current students, faculty and staff. Alumni are not eligible to use the wireless network due to software licensing restrictions.

Building Installation

Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) administers the frequency spectrum for the wireless network. EIS is part of  Information + Technology Services

If you would like to provide 802.11a/b/g wireless functionality in your building, EIS offers a Wireless Survey Service to ensure that interference and the loss of network reliability is minimized. EIS will inventory the use of the spectrum to ease the administration of it.

More details on establishing a wireless network access can be found here.

All such networks need to conform to the Network Security Policy.
